Fedora Core 5 on VMware 5.5
Fedora Core 5 was released yesterday, I attempted to upgrade my existing Fedora Core 4 installation in VMWare Workstation 5.5.0 and encountered a problem.
The Problem
Fedora isn't automatically detecting the VMWare SCSI device, it presents a warning that there were no hard drives were detected.
The Solution
I found you can resolve this by manually adding the BusLogic device during setup. Follow these steps:
Installation Process
- Default Boot Screen - Boot from the Fedora Core 5 installation media as normal
- Warning Message - You'll see "No hard drives have been found." warning dialog
- List of Automatically Detected Devices - The installer will show detected drivers but SCSI controller will be missing
- Manually Selecting the "BusLogic MultiMaster SCSI" Driver - Click "Add Device" and select the BusLogic driver from the list
- List of Detected Devices - The drivers list should now include the BusLogic driver and hard drives will be detected
Result
After doing this everything installed normally, Good Luck!!
